In light of the changing market environment, the new board decided to evaluate all strategic options to assess the best way forward. The report covered the economic opportunities and risks for all options from the sale of the network to replacing it with an FTTH network.
Communication network strategy of a local utility in Canton Zurich (2013 – today)
The community owned energy supplier also owns and operates a cable network and a partial fiber network. After an unsuccessful service provider change, the board wanted to reassess all strategic options to define a sustainable strategy. The strategic options, covering all possibilities from sale of the network to building an FTTH network, were evaluated and discussed with all stakeholders. The current activities focus on the implementation of the new strategy.
Mobile market entry strategy (2015)
A group of cable networks intended to launch a mobile offering. The various wholesale models had to be evaluated and negotiated with the mobile network operators. The economical and organizational consequences were presented and a solution proposed.
FTTH business plan second opinion (2015)
A potential investor of a proposed FTTH network of a midsize Swiss city was looking for a verification and second opinion of the suggested business plan. A neutral assessment of the market opportunities and the business risks was presented, with the objective to challenge and verify the validity of the proposed business plan.
Telecom retail strategy of a cantonal energy provider (2011 - 2012)
The utility company of a medium sized Canton invested heavily in FTTH networks. In order to maximize the network utilization, the opportunities and risks of launching their own branded retail offering needed to be assessed. The consulting mandate had to analyze the prerequisites and show the risks and opportunities such a sales strategy would entail.
